Alex Iwobi’s ‘More to Life’ explores his life beyond football through Afrobeats and UK sound

Super Eagles and Fulham player Alex Iwobi don launch him first music project, a nine-track EP wey him call ‘More to Life’. The project, released under the stage name ’17’, show how Iwobi wan express himself beyond the football field. The EP come with tracks like ‘Track 0’, ‘Mine’, ‘Bussdown’, ‘Joanna’, ‘Proper’, ‘Double Double’, ‘By My Side’, ‘Joga Bonito’, and ‘Letter’. E feature collaborations from Amadou Onana (wey record as 24AM), Nigerian singer Fido, British duo SPKS, and rapper Giddi. The songs dey mix Afrobeats, Afrowave and UK rap influence to show different sides of him life — from confidence and love to growth, hustle and loyalty.

Iwobi use this project to open up about him journey from being a footballer to trying to build identity beyond sport. Song like ‘Track 0 (Freestyle)’ set the tone with honesty and small boldness, while ‘Mine’ and ‘Joanna’ dive into personal emotions and relationships. ‘Joga Bonito’ pay tribute to his football roots in a playful way, and ‘Letter’ end the EP with more personal reflection. Iwobi start him music journey in 2024 after he face heavy backlash from fans during AFCON 2023, making this project like a form of self-expression and redemption.
