Asake’s Journey to OAU Ife: His Mother’s Account of His Decision to Study in Nigeria
Asake’s mother recently shared an emotional story on Korty EO’s YouTube podcast about how her son chose to study at Obafemi Awolowo University (OAU) in Ile-Ife, Osun State, over going to the United Kingdom. Initially, she had made preparations to send Asake abroad, including gathering funds and securing a passport, but Asake’s decision to stay in Nigeria took her by surprise. She recounts how he insisted on studying in OAU despite all plans being set for his UK education. Asake was convinced by Muyideen Oladapo, a family friend and OAU student, to enroll in the university, and the rest became history. The decision played a significant role in shaping Asake’s career, especially his artistry. Asake later graduated with a degree in Performing Arts and has often credited OAU for nurturing his musical talent. His mother’s recount adds a personal touch to his career, showing how his roots in Nigeria have influenced his success. Asake’s return to OAU last year for a performance and his bond with the institution were also highlighted, cementing his strong connection to his alma mater.
