Legendary Singer Asha Bhosle Passes Away at 92; Last Rites in Mumbai Tomorrow

Legendary Indian playback singer Asha Bhosle passed away on Sunday, April 12, 2026, at the age of 92 in Mumbai’s Breach Candy Hospital due to multi-organ failure. She had been admitted the previous evening following chest infection and exhaustion, and had also suffered a cardiac arrest and pulmonary complications. Known for her prolific career spanning eight decades, Asha Bhosle recorded over 12,500 songs in multiple languages and contributed immensely to Indian cinema music, lending her voice to iconic actresses such as Meena Kumari, Madhubala, Zeenat Aman, Kajol, and Urmila Matondkar, as well as South Indian stars like Padmini and Vyjayanthimala. She received several accolades, including the Padma Vibhushan and the Dadasaheb Phalke Award, and held a Guinness World Record for the most studio recordings. Tributes poured in from political leaders including Prime Minister Narendra Modi, West Bengal CM Mamata Banerjee, Maharashtra CM Devendra Fadnavis, and others, praising her melodious voice and contribution to Indian music. Her son Anand Bhosle confirmed that her last rites will be performed tomorrow at Shivaji Park, Mumbai.
