Bad Bunny delivers Spanish-language Super Bowl halftime show featuring cultural themes and surprise wedding

Bad Bunny made Super Bowl history by becoming the first halftime show headliner to perform an entire set in Spanish during the 60th edition of the NFL’s championship game at Levi’s Stadium in California. The Puerto Rican artist, whose real name is Benito Antonio Martínez Ocasio, presented an eight-song performance largely drawn from his latest album, ‘Debi Tirar Mas Fotos’, on a stage design heavily inspired by Puerto Rican culture and symbolism.

The show incorporated overt cultural and political references. One segment featured Bad Bunny performing his 2022 song ‘El Apagón’ atop power poles that exploded, symbolizing Puerto Rico’s fragile power grid and recalling the devastation caused by Hurricane Maria in 2017. Toward the end of the performance, he offered a message of unity, saying “God Bless America” before naming several countries across the Americas in front of a sign stating that love is more powerful than hate.

Several high-profile guest appearances added to the spectacle. Lady Gaga joined Bad Bunny for a reggaeton-influenced performance and salsa dance, while Ricky Martin appeared in a visual homage to Latin pop culture. Cardi B did not sing but appeared as a dancer, alongside a number of celebrities seen on stage during the show.

A unique moment occurred midway through the performance when a real wedding ceremony took place on stage. According to Bad Bunny’s representatives, the couple had originally invited him to their wedding, and he instead incorporated their ceremony into the halftime show, serving as a witness and signing the marriage certificate.

Despite largely positive reactions online, the performance drew sharp criticism from Donald Trump, who publicly condemned the show on social media, calling it offensive and unsuitable for children. The event concluded with the Seattle Seahawks defeating the New England Patriots 29–13 in the Super Bowl itself.
