Bands withdraw from Victorious Festival over Palestine flag controversy

Several bands have pulled out from the Victorious music festival after the Irish folk group The Mary Wallopers claimed they were censored for displaying a Palestinian flag during their performance. The incident occurred on Friday when the band’s set was allegedly interrupted after a crew member removed the flag from the stage. The festival organizers initially explained that the band’s set was cut short due to a ‘discriminatory chant,’ but The Mary Wallopers countered, claiming it was because of their support for Palestine. In response to this incident, The Last Dinner Party, Cliffords, and The Academic announced that they would no longer perform at the festival, citing political censorship. The Last Dinner Party expressed outrage, emphasizing the importance of artists using their platform to raise awareness about Palestinian humanitarian issues. Organizers later apologized for mishandling the situation, acknowledging that their policies on flag displays were not adequately communicated.
