Austria’s JJ Wins Eurovision 2025 with ‘Wasted Love’; UK Places 19th

Austria has secured its third Eurovision victory in history, with 24-year-old countertenor JJ winning the 2025 contest in Basel, Switzerland. His emotional performance of ‘Wasted Love’ earned a total of 436 points, combining strong jury support and a significant 178-point boost from the public vote. JJ, known for his high vocal range as a countertenor, moved audiences with his message: ‘Love is the strongest force in the world, let’s spread more love.’

Israel initially surged ahead in the public voting but ultimately finished second. Sweden’s entry included a stage sauna and came in fourth, while the UK’s Remember Monday finished 19th overall. Although the trio received 88 jury points, they were met with disappointment after receiving zero from the public vote.

Despite the low placement, Remember Monday outperformed the UK’s previous act, Olly Alexander, and received positive reactions for their harmonious and polished performance. Meanwhile, Switzerland also received zero points from the public, causing audible surprise in the arena.

With Austria’s third win following past victories in 1966 and 2014, the next Eurovision is set to take place in an Austrian city yet to be determined. The event was marked by tension, enthusiastic crowds, and minor disruptions during some performances, but ultimately ended with a celebration of diverse musical talent from across Europe.
