Billy Joel Suspends Concert Tour Due to Diagnosis of Normal Pressure Hydrocephalus

Billy Joel has announced the cancellation of all his upcoming concerts in both the United Kingdom and the United States following a diagnosis of Normal Pressure Hydrocephalus (NPH), a neurological condition involving a build-up of fluid in the brain. According to a statement shared on his Instagram, the condition has recently worsened due to his concert performances, leading to symptoms affecting his hearing, vision, and balance. As per his doctor’s advice, Joel is undergoing physical therapy and will refrain from performing during his recovery period. In March, he postponed eight tour dates in the US following surgery and the need for physiotherapy, although it is unclear whether those medical issues were linked to NPH. The condition, though rare and difficult to diagnose, can sometimes be successfully treated with surgery to drain the excess fluid. All ticket holders for the affected concerts, including those scheduled in cities like Edinburgh, Liverpool, New York, New Jersey, and Detroit, will be refunded. Joel, known for iconic songs like ‘Piano Man’ and ‘Uptown Girl,’ has sold over 150 million records and earned six Grammy Awards during his five-decade career.
