Billy Joel Suspends Tour to Focus on Recovery from Rare Brain Condition

Legendary American singer-songwriter Billy Joel has cancelled all upcoming tour dates due to a recent diagnosis of Normal Pressure Hydrocephalus (NPH), a rare neurological condition. The 76-year-old artist, known for iconic songs such as ‘Piano Man’, ‘Uptown Girl’, and ‘We Didn’t Start the Fire’, is currently undergoing treatment and physical therapy as recommended by his medical team. NPH is caused by a buildup of fluid in the brain, leading to symptoms like balance issues, vision problems, and impaired hearing. These symptoms have been exacerbated by recent live performances, prompting doctors to advise Joel against continuing with his tour.

As a result, 17 concert dates scheduled across the United States, Canada, and the United Kingdom in 2025 and 2026 have been cancelled. These included high-profile stadium shows at Murrayfield in Edinburgh and Anfield in Liverpool. Joel expressed his regret to fans, thanking them for their understanding and continued support. He previously postponed shows in March for unspecified medical reasons. Known for his record-breaking decade-long residency at Madison Square Garden, Joel has won five Grammy Awards and was inducted into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame in 1999. He remains committed to his health and optimistic about returning to the stage once recovered.
