Jeff Lynne’s ELO BST Hyde Park performance cancelled due to health issues

Fans of Electric Light Orchestra (ELO) were disappointed as BST Hyde Park cancelled the final day of its festival after Jeff Lynne, the band’s 77-year-old frontman, withdrew due to health concerns. Lynne had been scheduled to perform on Sunday but stepped down after being advised by doctors to refrain from performing due to a ‘systemic infection.’ The decision came shortly after ELO cancelled a gig in Manchester for similar health reasons. Despite hints that the Hyde Park show could be ELO’s last, Lynne, who was ‘heartbroken’ by the cancellation, has prioritized his health. ELO’s legacy remains intact, though Lynne won’t be able to reschedule the performance. The band reassured fans that ticket refunds would be processed. The news follows an earlier injury Lynne sustained in a taxi crash, yet he performed despite a broken hand earlier this month. ELO, renowned for their unique fusion of classical music and rock, first split in 1986 but reunited in 2014, continuing to enjoy success. Lynne was inducted into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame in 2017 and received an OBE in 2020 for his contributions to music.
