Charli XCX’s team clarifies songwriting credits after Sky Ferreira’s concerns over ‘Wuthering Heights’ soundtrack

Charli XCX’s management has issued a statement responding to recent claims by Sky Ferreira that parts of the soundtrack for Emerald Fennell’s film Wuthering Heights were based on her old music demos. The film’s soundtrack, released in February 2026, includes collaborations with The Velvet Underground’s John Cale and a featured guest appearance by Ferreira on the track “Eyes Of The World.” However, Ferreira commented on Instagram that certain sections of other songs, such as “Chains Of Love,” bore resemblance to her demo “Ancient Idols” from 2018 and that “Altars” seemed based on her earlier 2015 material. She remarked that she had proof of the timeline of her work but did not intend to pursue the matter further.Charli XCX’s team, speaking through Billboard, responded by stating that Charli has an extensive history of songwriting and collaborations and always ensures fair credit sharing. They explained that before releasing the album, all tracks underwent a standard review involving managers, legal representatives, artists, and producers to confirm songwriting splits and proper documentation. Every contributor, including Ferreira, was consulted in advance, and all songwriting credits were formally approved prior to the album’s release.Ferreira and Charli XCX share a long creative history, previously collaborating on the 2019 single “Cross You Out.” Both artists have expressed mutual admiration for each other’s talents over the years. Ferreira, currently focused on reclaiming ownership of her music following her split from Capitol Records, has not issued further public comment about the situation.
