Rock & Roll Hall of Fame Announces 2025 Inductees Including Chubby Checker, Outkast, and the White Stripes

Chubby Checker, famed for his 1960 hit ‘The Twist,’ will finally be inducted into the Rock & Roll Hall of Fame, more than six decades after his song became a global sensation. At 83, Checker has long advocated for his inclusion, even running a Billboard ad urging recognition while he is still alive. The 2025 class, announced by the Rock & Roll Hall of Fame Foundation after a segment on ABC’s ‘American Idol,’ features a diverse group: Joe Cocker, the White Stripes, Outkast, Cyndi Lauper, Bad Company, and Soundgarden. The induction ceremony will take place on November 8 at the Peacock Theater in Los Angeles, streaming live on Disney+.

Notably, Checker, Cocker, Outkast, and Bad Company are all first-time nominees. The White Stripes’ induction is particularly anticipated, as drummer Meg White has maintained a low public profile since the band’s 2011 breakup, making her potential appearance a highlight. Other honorees this year include Salt-N-Pepa and Warren Zevon for musical influence, with Nicky Hopkins, Carol Kaye, and Thom Bell recognized for musical excellence. Lenny Waronker will receive the Ahmet Ertegun Award.

Some notable nominees, such as Oasis and Phish, did not make the final cut, though Phish won the fan ballot. The Hall continues to face criticism for its low representation of women, with only two female inductees this year: Cyndi Lauper and Meg White. The Hall has pledged to address this imbalance, redefining rock ‘n’ roll as an inclusive and evolving spirit. Artists become eligible for nomination 25 years after their first recording.
