AI-Generated Music Floods Deezer Uploads While Streams Remain Minimal

Deezer reports a rapid rise in AI-generated music, stating that 44% of all tracks uploaded to its platform each day are now created using artificial intelligence. This equates to roughly 75,000 AI-generated songs daily and more than two million per month. The trend has accelerated significantly over time, growing from 10,000 daily uploads in early 2025 to 60,000 by January 2026, highlighting how quickly generative tools are being adopted in music production.

Despite this surge in supply, listener demand for AI-generated tracks remains relatively low. Deezer estimates that these songs account for only 1–3% of total streams. Additionally, the company flags approximately 85% of AI-generated uploads as fraudulent, suggesting that many are being produced in bulk for manipulation purposes rather than genuine artistic expression.

To address these challenges, Deezer has implemented several countermeasures. Tracks identified as AI-generated are excluded from algorithmic recommendations and editorial playlists, limiting their visibility to users. The company has also announced it will stop storing high-resolution versions of such tracks, further reducing their prominence and potential monetization.

Deezer CEO Alexis Lanternier emphasized the need for broader industry cooperation to protect artists’ rights and maintain transparency for listeners. He argues that proactive detection tools and platform policies can help reduce fraud and prevent dilution of streaming revenues. Overall, the situation reflects a growing tension in the music industry between technological innovation and the need to preserve fair compensation and authenticity in digital distribution.
