Dua Lipa, Coldplay, and Other Artists Demand Action on Ticket Resale Legislation

Dua Lipa, Coldplay, and several other major music artists have joined forces to urge the UK government to fulfill its pledge to cap ticket resale prices and prevent exploitative practices by touts. The artists, along with industry organizations such as Which?, FanFair Alliance, and the Football Supporters’ Association, have signed a statement calling for reforms in the secondary ticketing market. These practices, often involving bots to bulk-buy tickets and resell them at inflated prices, are blocking genuine fans from attending events. Labour’s manifesto had promised action to protect concertgoers from being scammed or priced out of events, but despite a consultation on the matter, the government has yet to introduce any new laws. The issue has been exacerbated by international ticket scalpers who buy up tickets and list them on secondary sites like Viagogo and StubHub at exorbitant prices. Investigations by Which? have revealed ticket prices marked up as much as 10 times the original cost. The UK government has stated it is committed to tackling the issue but has not provided clear timelines for legislative action.
