Dua Lipa Receives Kosovan Citizenship, Expresses Gratitude
Dua Lipa has expressed her gratitude after being granted citizenship by Kosovo’s president, Vjosa Osmani. Born in London to Kosovan-Albanian parents, Lipa moved to Kosovo with her family at age 11 before returning to London at 15. The singer, known for hits like ‘One Kiss’ and ‘New Rules,’ shared her appreciation on Instagram, saying she felt ‘so grateful’ for the honor. President Osmani welcomed Lipa with a public ceremony, recognizing her as an important cultural figure for Kosovo. Lipa’s ties to Kosovo have been strong, including her work with the Sunny Hill Festival, which she founded in 2018. This citizenship follows Lipa’s earlier acquisition of Albanian citizenship in 2022. During the Sunny Hill Festival in Pristina, she performed the song ‘Era’ in Albanian with her father, marking a significant moment for her and the Kosovo community. Lipa’s recognition reflects her influence on the global stage and her ongoing efforts to promote Kosovo’s image internationally.
