Dua Lipa Receives Kosovo Citizenship in Recognition of Her Contribution

Pop star Dua Lipa has been granted Kosovo citizenship in a ceremony hosted by President Vjosa Osmani. Lipa, born in London to Kosovan-Albanian parents, briefly lived in Kosovo’s capital, Pristina, when she was 11 years old. The president called it an honor to grant her citizenship, praising her as an influential cultural figure for the country. Lipa has long spoken about her connection to Kosovo and has worked to support vulnerable communities through a charity she established. She was warmly received at the ceremony, with a children’s choir performing a rendition of her hit song ‘Levitating.’ In addition to her British citizenship, Lipa was granted Albanian citizenship in 2022 for promoting the country through her global fame. Kosovo also awarded her the title of Honorary Ambassador in the same year. Lipa, who is in Kosovo for the Sunny Hill Festival she co-founded, expressed deep gratitude and pride in performing in the country that shaped her. She continues to use her platform to change perceptions about Kosovo and to promote its culture internationally.
