Political Leaders Condole the Demise of Legendary Singer Asha Bhosle

Legendary Indian singer Asha Bhosle, aged 92, passed away at Mumbai’s Breach Candy Hospital on Sunday due to cardiac and respiratory issues, where she had been admitted in critical condition since Saturday evening. Asha Bhosle, younger sister of the late Lata Mangeshkar, had a prolific career spanning over six decades, singing more than 12,000 songs in multiple languages including Hindi, Marathi, Bengali, Gujarati, and Punjabi. She received numerous accolades such as ‘Maharashtra Bhushan’ and ‘Bangla Vibhushan’ for her invaluable contributions to Indian music. Top political leaders, including Prime Minister Narendra Modi, Maharashtra Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis, Deputy Chief Minister Sunetra Pawar, and NCP president Sharad Pawar, publicly expressed their grief. CM Fadnavis described her death as ‘deeply saddening’ and praised her versatility, while Sunetra Pawar called her the ‘Empress of Melody’, highlighting her dedication and tireless work ethic. Sharad Pawar remarked that her passing marks ‘the end of a golden era’ in music, emphasising the emotional depth and agility of her voice that touched generations. Bhosle’s career began at the tender age of 9, and she went on to become a defining voice of Bollywood music for decades, leaving a legacy that will continue to influence Indian music and culture.
