Macklemore Announces Free Palestine Tour Following Removal from Ed Sheeran’s Concerts
Macklemore has announced the ‘Free Palestine Tour,’ a series of concerts dedicated to supporting Palestinian liberation, following his removal from Ed Sheeran’s tour after he made pro-Palestine comments on stage. The controversy arose when Ed Sheeran’s opening acts and backing band withdrew from the tour after Sheeran removed Macklemore from the lineup due to his pro-Palestine remarks. In an Instagram post, Macklemore explained that the recent events highlight a growing collective awareness around Palestinian liberation and the role of artists in addressing global issues. He emphasized that artists must take a stand during times of genocide and not remain apolitical. Macklemore stated that the situation involving his removal is part of a larger issue where ‘billionaire class’ influences which voices are allowed on stage. The tour will include stops in Dublin, Paris, and London, with additional U.S. dates to be announced. Artists who have supported Palestinian solidarity will join the tour, and all proceeds will benefit organizations such as Anera, Glia, Gaza Soup Kitchen, Taawon, HEAL Palestine, Palestinian Youth Movement, Middle East Children’s Alliance, Jewish Voice for Peace, Medical Aid for Palestinians, Institute for Middle East Understanding, Palestine Children’s Relief Fund, and UNRWA USA. Tickets will be available for presale starting Monday at 10 a.m. local time, with general sale beginning Wednesday at 10 a.m. local time. The announcement reflects a broader movement where artists are increasingly expected to use their platforms to address social and political issues, particularly in the context of ongoing conflicts and humanitarian crises.
