The success of Netflix’s animated musical ‘KPop Demon Hunters’ has led to its fictional K-pop bands dominating the US music charts. The movie, which has garnered over 33 million views globally in just two weeks, features the boy band Saja Boys and the girl group Huntr/x. Their songs have topped the Spotify charts, surpassing popular K-pop groups BTS and Blackpink. The track ‘Your Idol’ by Saja Boys reached number one on the US Spotify chart, while ‘Golden’ by Huntr/x hit number two, making them the highest-charting male and female K-pop groups in US history. The film’s soundtrack also made a significant debut, entering the top 10 of the Billboard 200, marking the highest debut for a soundtrack this year. The soundtrack’s song ‘Golden’ is being considered for awards, and it is being released as an official single by Republic Records. The success of the fictional K-pop bands comes amid real-life K-pop stars BTS and Blackpink preparing for major tours and comebacks. The film, produced by Sony Pictures Animation, follows the adventures of the Huntr/x members, who are also secret demon hunters protecting their fans from supernatural threats. The movie’s popularity is fueled by top K-pop producers like Teddy Park and BTS collaborator Lindgren, who helped create the soundtrack.
