Former Turnstile guitarist faces attempted murder charges over attack on bandmate’s father

Brady Ebert, 33, a former guitarist and founding member of the US hardcore punk band Turnstile, has been charged with attempted murder after allegedly running over the father of Turnstile’s lead singer, Brendan Yates, with his car. The incident reportedly took place in Silver Spring, Maryland, where both men live near each other. According to police reports, William Yates, 79, was assisting his daughter and grandchildren when Ebert allegedly drove aggressively toward them. Despite attempts by Yates to protect his family, Ebert is said to have reversed his car, accelerated, and struck Yates, causing severe injuries to both his legs. Ebert allegedly returned to the scene to verbally threaten Yates. The attack is said to be part of ongoing tensions since Ebert left Turnstile in 2022, with previous incidents involving aggressive behaviour and threats. Turnstile has publicly stated that they cut ties with Ebert due to a pattern of harmful behaviour and escalating threats. Yates has undergone surgery and is recovering. The band, which rose to prominence with albums like “Glow On” and “Never Enough,” expressed gratitude that Yates survived and condemned Ebert’s actions. The case has drawn attention both for its violent nature and the notoriety of the band involved.
