Freddie Mercury Commemorated with Royal Mint Collectable Coin

Freddie Mercury has been honored with a new coin from The Royal Mint, celebrating the 40th anniversary of his iconic Live Aid performance. The coin is part of the Music Legends series, which celebrates influential British musicians. The design features Mercury mid-performance with his autograph and a musical stave encircling the coin, symbolizing his impressive vocal range. Additionally, the coin features a studded armband, paying homage to his famous Live Aid outfit. To mark the release, Mercury’s sister, Kashmira Bulsara, struck the first coin, expressing pride in the tribute to her brother. As part of the tribute, a special gold version of the coin will be donated to the Mercury Phoenix Trust, the AIDS charity founded in his memory, for auction. Freddie Mercury, born Farrokh Bulsara, was the lead vocalist and pianist of the legendary band Queen. He passed away in 1991 from complications of AIDS. The release of the coin coincides with the 40th anniversary of Queen’s unforgettable Live Aid performance in 1985, widely regarded as one of the greatest live shows ever. This momentous performance featured powerful renditions of Queen’s greatest hits, with Mercury captivating an audience of 72,000 people. The coin will be available for purchase starting November 18.
