Former Free Britney Advocate Questions End of Spears’ Conservatorship Following DUI Arrest

A former advocate of the #FreeBritney movement has expressed regret over the campaign to end Britney Spears’ conservatorship, following the singer’s recent arrest for driving under the influence (DUI). Spears, 44, was detained after an hour-long police chase in California, showing signs of impairment, and reports indicate she had dismissed her sobriety coaches shortly beforehand. Jessica, a prominent campaigner, told TMZ that while she initially supported Britney’s autonomy, recent events—including social media posts of erratic behaviour and risky actions—led her to reconsider whether Spears might have still benefited from structured oversight. She emphasised that while her father should not regain control, an independent party might better manage her wellbeing. Britney’s career post-conservatorship has been active, including collaborations with Elton John and the release of her memoir, ‘The Woman in Me’. However, personal and family tensions, notably with her sons Sean Preston and Jayden James, alongside publicised relationship and health struggles, have contributed to ongoing concern. Her representatives have stated that Britney is committed to complying with the law and receiving support, and that her loved ones are involved in planning her wellbeing. Spears was first placed under a conservatorship in 2008, which governed her financial, personal, and professional life for over a decade, until its termination in 2021.
