A significant piece of Oasis history is set to go under the hammer, as a red Gibson ES-355 guitar that was allegedly ‘smashed up’ by Liam Gallagher during the infamous 2009 backstage fight is being sold at auction. The altercation, which took place on the night Oasis split, marked the end of the band’s turbulent relationship with the Gallagher brothers. The guitar, which has been damaged in the fracas, is expected to fetch up to £500,000 at the auction. Alongside it, Noel Gallagher’s Takamine FP460SC acoustic guitar, used to record the iconic song ‘Wonderwall,’ will also be up for sale. This auction is part of a larger collection of over 150 Oasis-related items, including legendary music memorabilia such as John Lennon’s glasses and Michael Jackson’s Smooth Criminal fedora. The Gallagher brothers, despite their strained history, have reconciled and are currently touring, with their reunion tour estimated to bring in £400 million.
