HebCelt Festival Celebrates Record-Breaking Success in 2023

The HebCelt festival, held annually in Stornoway, Scotland, celebrated its most successful year yet in 2023, attracting over 18,500 fans to the island. The festival, which began 28 years ago, has become a major cultural event for the local community. Scottish pop icon Lulu headlined this year’s festival, alongside other top artists like Skerryvore, Tide Lines, Nina Nesbitt, and Eddi Reader. A notable highlight was the festival’s focus on female talent, with 70% of the performers being women, including local artists Josie Duncan and Isla Scott. Iain Macphail, the festival chair, expressed immense pride in the event’s achievements, highlighting the dedication of volunteers, staff, and the community that helped transform the festival into a world-class, internationally recognized event. The economic impact on the local economy has been significant, with last year’s festival contributing £4.2 million. HebCelt now ranks as Scotland’s third-largest music festival, following TRNSMT and Belladrum. Looking ahead, next year’s festival is scheduled for July 15-18, 2024, continuing its legacy of celebrating both music and the Isle of Lewis’s vibrant culture.
