Ukrainian Eurovision Singer Loses Home to Shelling but Vows to Perform for Her Country

Khrystyna Starykova, a 19-year-old Ukrainian singer and backing vocalist for the Eurovision band Ziferblat, has lost her home in Myrnograd due to Russian shelling. Currently in Switzerland preparing for her Eurovision performance, Starykova shared images of her destroyed apartment block, expressing both sorrow and determination. Despite the devastation, she reported that her friends and family are safe. Starykova noted that she had feared this outcome, as both her grandmother and aunt had already lost their homes in previous attacks.

Born in Donetsk and raised in Myrnograd, Starykova has lived through the conflict since its early days, recalling traumatic moments from as far back as 2015. She later moved to Kyiv to study music but always hoped to return home. The band Ziferblat will represent Ukraine with their song ‘Bird of Pray,’ which highlights the emotional toll of war and separation. Known among fans as the ‘bird girl’ for her vocal range, Starykova believes her performance will serve as a tribute to Ukrainian resilience. She remains committed to sharing the message that, despite suffering, Ukrainians will endure and survive.
