Shakira to perform a free concert on Copacabana Beach in Rio de Janeiro
Colombian singer Shakira is set to perform a free concert on Rio de Janeiro’s famous Copacabana Beach, with organisers expecting up to two million attendees. The performance forms part of her ‘Las Mujeres Ya No Lloran’ world tour and is anticipated to be the largest show of her career, fulfilling a personal ambition to perform at the iconic location. The concert has been arranged by Rio’s City Hall to stimulate economic activity, inspired by the successes of previous large-scale events by international artists such as Madonna and Lady Gaga. According to Mayor Eduardo Cavaliere, the event is projected to generate significant economic benefits, with estimates suggesting a 40-fold return on investment through job creation, local development, and increased tourism. The concert is expected to contribute around $155 million to the local economy, with a noticeable rise in tourism and accommodation bookings reported for May. For audiences in the United States, access to the live event will require the use of a VPN to bypass geo-restrictions by setting the location to Brazil. Alternatively, the concert can be streamed through services such as Sling, which offers a Globo + Globoplay package for $13.99 per month, or DirecTV, offering a Brazilian package for $20 per month.
