Manchester’s Oasis Concert: Fences to Prevent Ticketless Viewers and Protect the Environment

To control ticketless fans attempting to watch Oasis’s reunion concerts from afar, Manchester City Council has installed large steel fences around Heaton Park. These measures come after large crowds gathered at ‘Gallagher Hill’ to watch the show from a distance, despite not having tickets. The fences, which cover a large part of the park’s cattle field, serve a dual purpose: to stop people from gathering and to protect the newly developed woodland area. The council has stressed that the concert will no longer be visible from this area, and additional security measures have been put in place. Over 2,000 security staff and police officers will ensure only ticket-holders can access the concert. Although the fences have raised concerns, the council has urged non-ticket holders to enjoy the festivities in the city center, where a party atmosphere awaits. This marks the first Oasis concerts in 16 years, and the city is determined to balance safety and enjoyment for all fans, whether they have tickets or not.
