In response, West has written a letter expressing a desire to meet the British Jewish community and demonstrate change through his actions, following an earlier apology published in the Wall Street Journal. However, Phil Rosenberg, President of the Board of Deputies of British Jews, stated that a meeting would only be acceptable if West agreed not to perform at the festival. The Board highlighted West’s previous offensive content, including songs titled ‘Heil Hitler’ and ‘Gas Chamber’, and remarks trivializing the experience of slavery, stressing the need for genuine remorse before returning to the stage. Festival promoter Festival Republic defended the booking, citing West’s legal right to perform and urging the public to offer forgiveness. Politicians, including Health Secretary Wes Streeting, criticized the decision, citing rising antisemitism in the UK and the responsibilities of high-profile figures like West. The Home Office is reviewing West’s entry into the country, while several sponsors, including Pepsi and Diageo, have withdrawn support for the festival.
