Kendrick Lamar Wins Big at BET Awards with Five Major Wins

Kendrick Lamar was the biggest winner at the 2023 BET Awards, taking home five out of his 10 nominations. The rapper won Best Album for ‘GNX,’ Best Video for ‘Not Like Us,’ and shared the Video Director of the Year award with filmmaker Dave Free. Lamar praised BET for always representing the culture properly. Other notable wins included Doechii, who was named Best Female Hip-Hop Artist, and received the opportunity to speak out against US President Donald Trump’s military responses to protests in Los Angeles. The Ultimate Icon Awards went to Mariah Carey, Snoop Dogg, Kirk Franklin, and Jamie Foxx. Foxx, who is recovering from a stroke, expressed his gratitude for life during his acceptance speech. Music performances included Ashanti, Lil Kim, and a tribute to Takeoff by Offset and Quavo. The ceremony also celebrated acting with Denzel Washington taking home Best Actor and Cynthia Erivo winning Best Actress. Other winners included SZA, Chris Brown, and Blue Ivy Carter, who received the YoungStars Award.
