Kylie Minogue tops close race for UK Christmas number one with ‘XMAS’

Pop icon Kylie Minogue is leading a tight competition for the UK’s 2025 Christmas number one single, according to data from the Official Charts Company. Her festive track ‘XMAS,’ an Amazon-exclusive release, currently holds a 7,000-unit advantage over Wham’s perennial hit ‘Last Christmas,’ which has secured the chart’s top position for the past two years. In third place, just 231 sales behind Wham, is ‘Lullaby,’ a charity single recorded by the supergroup Together For Palestine, featuring artists such as Dan Smith, Celeste, Neneh Cherry, Leigh-Anne Pinnock, and Brian Eno. Proceeds from the single will benefit aid efforts in Gaza.

Minogue’s latest single, included in the 10th-anniversary edition of her ‘Kylie Christmas’ album, marks her first serious bid for a Christmas chart topper since ‘Especially For You’ in 1988. The song, originally written during earlier sessions but only recently completed, features a playful dance routine reminiscent of ‘YMCA’ and has gained strong visibility due to its Amazon streaming prominence.

If Kylie maintains her lead, ‘XMAS’ will become her first UK number one single since 2003’s ‘Slow.’ Meanwhile, Wham’s ‘Last Christmas’ remains a heavy contender, with record-breaking streaming figures that could still reclaim the top spot. Other seasonal favourites, including Mariah Carey’s ‘All I Want For Christmas Is You’ and The Pogues’ ‘Fairytale of New York,’ round out the top five. With fewer than 10,000 sales separating the leading songs, the final chart position remains uncertain as streaming data continues to update throughout the week.
