Ladysmith Black Mambazo marks 65 years with a collaborative album celebrating unity and heritage

Ladysmith Black Mambazo has unveiled their new album ‘One Voice One World’, a milestone project that unites multiple generations of South African musical talent. The legendary isicathamiya group collaborated with acclaimed jazz musician Nduduzo Makhathini and vocalist Mbuso Khoza to blend traditional harmonies with modern African and global influences. Sibongiseni Shabalala explained that the album was inspired by the universal nature of music, serving as a bridge between cultures and fostering mutual respect and understanding.

The release follows the success of their single ‘You Make Me Happy’, which focused on themes of love and connection. With this full-length project, the group expands those ideas into broader reflections on peace, unity, and shared humanity. The timing also carries emotional weight, as the ensemble commemorates 65 years of performing while mourning the recent passing of longtime member Albert Mazibuko, a pillar of the group since 1969 and a key figure in their global rise through collaborations like Paul Simon’s ‘Graceland’.

‘One Voice One World’ showcases Ladysmith Black Mambazo’s commitment to evolution while remaining grounded in the teachings of their late founder, Joseph Shabalala. Through this album and accompanying international tour—including stops in Johannesburg, Cape Town, and Durban—the group continues to celebrate South African musical heritage while connecting with global audiences through timeless messages of hope and unity.
