Lily Allen’s West End Girl Live tour delivers mixed performance with delayed stage entrance

Lily Allen’s ‘West End Girl Live’ tour premiered at Glasgow Royal Concert Hall, marking her much-anticipated return. The show is structured in two acts, but fans had to wait 45 minutes before Allen appeared, following a string ensemble performance of her hits, including ‘The Fear’. While the orchestral prelude was charming and theatrically inventive, it overstayed its welcome, leaving the first act feeling sluggish. Allen finally takes the stage for the second act, performing her 2025 album ‘West End Girl’ in full. Despite a visually rich set with spotlit stages and props from the songs, her onstage presence at times comes across as stiff and under-rehearsed. Some songs, like ‘Pussy Palace’ and ‘Nonmonogamummy’, allow her to engage more with the audience, but other tracks feel flat or awkwardly acted. Nevertheless, the crowd responded enthusiastically, participating in the performance and giving a standing ovation at the end. Critics noted that while Allen’s material resonates with fans, the live execution doesn’t fully capture the album’s narrative depth and emotional nuance. The tour will continue across the UK until 22 March before moving to the US, Europe, and Australia later this year.
