Lordkez makes her Cape Town International Jazz Festival debut with R&B sound

Lordkez, originally from Kimberley and now based in Johannesburg, is set to make her debut at the Cape Town International Jazz Festival this weekend. Her journey to this stage has been years in the making, beginning with her musical foundations in church and early influences from artists like Whitney Houston and Brandy. A formative period in Abu Dhabi between 2015 and 2019 solidified her decision to pursue music professionally. In 2020, she moved to Cape Town to study sound engineering at the SAE Institute, combining technical training with developing her unique voice. Over the past seven years, her music has traversed alternative R&B, neo-soul, hip-hop, and jazz, culminating in her award-winning debut album, Testament, which earned her a South African Music Award for Best R&B/Soul Album. More recently, she has honed her focus on classic R&B traditions with projects like You, Me and the 90s and tracks like Aweh, particularly following a remix with Cassper Nyovest. Known for her compelling live performances at festivals such as Rocking the Daisies and international tours with Mi Casa, Lordkez brings both experience and versatility to the CTIJF stage. Her upcoming set promises a blend of earlier experimental work and her refined R&B sound, offering audiences an immersive musical journey. Beyond this festival, she is working on a second album and expanding her performance footprint both locally and abroad.
