Matt Cameron Clarifies He’s Still Active After Leaving Pearl Jam

Matt Cameron, Pearl Jam’s longtime drummer, announced his departure from the band after 27 years, sparking speculation among fans. In a farewell message, he expressed gratitude toward the band, crew, and fans, hinting at more details to come. Although the reason for his exit remains undisclosed, the farewell seemed amicable, marked by hugs and a champagne toast after their final show in Pittsburgh on May 18. Following his exit, Cameron assured fans via Instagram that he remains an active musician, though he did not elaborate on specific plans.

Meanwhile, attention has shifted to Soundgarden, Cameron’s other iconic band. The remaining members, including guitarist Kim Thayil, possess Chris Cornell’s final vocal recordings and have expressed their intention to complete one final Soundgarden album as a tribute. The group also missed performing at the Black Sabbath farewell concert due to scheduling conflicts but expressed ongoing appreciation for the support received.

As for Pearl Jam’s future, no replacement drummer has been named. Some fans have speculated about a possible reunion with former drummer Dave Abbruzzese, who, despite posting a drum performance of “Animal,” stated publicly that a reunion is highly unlikely due to longstanding estrangement.

Soundgarden is set to be inducted into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame on November 8, offering another potential moment for reunion or tribute.
