Nova Scotian Music Industry Veteran Joe Wood Recognized by National Music Centre

Joe Wood, a veteran of the Canadian music industry from Liverpool, Nova Scotia, is being honoured with a plaque at the National Music Centre in Calgary, following his induction into the Canadian Country Music Hall of Fame in the builders category last year. Wood began his career as a performer in pop-country and pop-folk, gaining radio airplay for several singles. However, after attending a Bruce Springsteen concert in 1984, he decided to focus on supporting other artists rather than performing himself. Co-founding RDR Music Group with his ex-wife in the early 1980s, Wood has helped independent musicians navigate industry changes from vinyl records to CDs and now digital distribution. He was an early adopter of digital file distribution for radio, allowing music to reach stations across Canada quickly and efficiently, earning recognition for his forward-thinking approach. Over the years, Wood has worked with a wide range of artists, including Garth Brooks, Mötley Crüe, Ian Tyson, and Canadian talents like Lennie Gallant and Jon Mullane. Wood continues to operate from Nova Scotia, often working from scenic locations along the South Shore. He is noted for his generosity, mentorship, and dedication to helping musicians achieve radio exposure, making a lasting impact across multiple music genres.
