Peter Cunnah’s 50-year journey to meet his birth father and uncover his musical family

Peter Cunnah, known for his hit song ‘Things Can Only Get Better’ with D:Ream, embarked on a personal journey to find his birth parents. After more than 50 years, he finally met his biological father, Patrick Hanna, after tracing him with the help of his family. Cunnah, adopted at a young age, had known of his adoption but was still shocked when his birth mother reached out in 1991. Despite meeting his birth mother and discovering his half-siblings, it took decades more for Cunnah to find his father, who had used a stage name. Through detective work and DNA testing, he connected with Hanna and spent an emotional afternoon with him. This journey of self-discovery has helped Cunnah feel more complete, and now he continues to make music, free from his past struggles with addiction, in County Donegal, Ireland.
