Mike Peters, The Alarm frontman and cancer charity founder, dies at 66 after three-decade battle with leukemia

Mike Peters, frontman of the Welsh rock band The Alarm, has died at age 66 following a prolonged battle with blood cancer. The Prestatyn-born musician, first diagnosed with chronic lymphocytic leukaemia (CLL) at 36, recently faced a devastating recurrence when doctors discovered Richter’s syndrome – a rare transformation of CLL into aggressive lymphoma – days before a US tour in 2024. Peters co-founded the Love Hope Strength cancer charity with his wife Jules, through which he became a prominent advocate for cancer patients. His musical legacy includes 1980s hits like ’68 Guns’ and ‘Strength’, collaborations with rock legends including U2 and Bruce Springsteen, and composing Wales’ EURO 2020 anthem ‘The Red Wall Of Cymru’. Awarded an MBE in 2019 for cancer care services, Peters is survived by his wife and two sons. The Christie NHS Foundation Trust confirmed he was undergoing treatment for fast-growing lymphoma prior to his death.
