Police drop investigation into Kneecap’s Glastonbury performance

Police in Avon and Somerset have decided not to pursue any further action against the Irish rap group Kneecap after reviewing footage of their performance at the Glastonbury Festival. Last month, the police initiated a criminal investigation to determine if comments made on stage during their set could be considered criminal offenses. A senior detective was appointed to investigate the matter, and advice was sought from the Crown Prosecution Service. After reviewing the evidence, the police concluded there was insufficient evidence to support any charges. The decision was communicated to Kneecap on July 18. Despite this, the investigation into separate comments made during another performance, by the English punk-rap duo Bob Vylan, is ongoing. The case highlights the ongoing scrutiny of public performances and whether any content crosses legal boundaries. While Kneecap’s investigation has been closed, the police will continue to monitor other performances for any potentially harmful or criminal content.
