Paul Mario Day, Original Iron Maiden Vocalist, Dies at 69

Paul Mario Day, the original singer of the legendary metal band Iron Maiden, has died peacefully at his home in Australia at the age of 69. Day was a member of Iron Maiden’s initial lineup formed in December 1975 but was dismissed in October 1976 due to his lack of stage presence. Despite this early setback, he remained a respected figure in British rock music, later leading bands such as More, Wildfire, and a mid-1980s version of Sweet. Sweet guitarist Andy Scott announced Day’s passing and reflected on their successful collaboration, including sold-out shows in Australia and Europe and a well-received live album, ‘Live at the Marquee.’ Day was also known for his role in the NWOBHM (New Wave of British Heavy Metal) scene, especially with the band More, which performed iconic shows like the 1981 Monsters of Rock festival at Castle Donington. Day’s contribution to rock music earned him lasting admiration from fans and fellow musicians alike. Tributes have gone out to his wife Cecily, family, friends, and fans worldwide during this difficult time.
