BBC Explains Why CMAT’s Irish Language Section Wasn’t Played During Euro-Country Debut

The BBC has clarified that Radio 1 did not deliberately remove the Irish language section of CMAT’s new single ‘Euro-Country’ during its debut on July 22. According to the BBC, the version played was provided by the record label, AWAL, and did not include the first 45 seconds of the song where CMAT sings in Irish. The Irish singer, CMAT, whose full name is Ciara Mary-Alice Thompson, expressed on Instagram that it was not her decision to have the Irish section edited out, adding that the BBC had contacted her to confirm they would air the full version in future broadcasts. CMAT also pointed out that another part of the song, which references a more sensitive theme about suicide, was also edited out, but she understood the reasoning behind this. The BBC confirmed that the full version, including the Irish intro, had been aired on other Radio 1 shows like Rickie Melvin and Charlie, and would be played again during Going Home and Jack Saunders’ New Music Show. CMAT’s upcoming album, also titled ‘Euro-Country,’ is set for release on August 29. The singer continues to face criticism for her viral track ‘Republic of Ireland Music.’
