BBC ends contract with Radio 2 DJ Scott Mills following allegations of personal misconduct
Scott Mills, a long-standing BBC Radio 2 presenter, has had his contract terminated following allegations regarding his personal conduct. Having spent nearly 30 years with the corporation, Mills was among its highest-paid stars, ranking 11th in the most recent salary list. He had recently taken over the Radio 2 breakfast show from Zoe Ball in January 2025. Mills was removed from the air last Tuesday while the BBC investigated the claims. His final broadcast aired on 24 March, with the following day’s show presented by Gary Davies, whose image now appears in place of Mills’s on the schedule. BBC Director of Music, Lorna Clarke, described the news as ‘sudden and unexpected,’ acknowledging the shock it would cause among staff and listeners. Mills began his broadcasting career in local radio in Southampton before joining the BBC in 1998, presenting various shows on Radio 1, Radio 5 Live, and later Radio 2. He also participated in several television projects, including Strictly Come Dancing, Robot Wars, and Celebrity Race Across the World, which he won in 2024 alongside his partner Sam Vaughan. He was due to host a new podcast and support Boyzone on tour, plans now uncertain. Financially, Mills earned between £355,000 and £359,999 per year according to the corporation’s last annual report. The BBC has not disclosed further details regarding the allegations. The situation continues to develop, and updates are expected.
