Rick Davies, Supertramp’s Co-Founder and Singer, Dies After Battle with Cancer

Rick Davies, the co-founder and lead singer of the iconic British rock band Supertramp, has passed away at the age of 81. Davies, who had been battling multiple myeloma for over a decade, died on Saturday. He was known for co-writing some of the band’s biggest hits, including ‘Breakfast in America’ and ‘The Logical Song’, alongside fellow band member Roger Hodgson. His soulful vocals and unique touch on the Wurlitzer piano helped define the band’s signature sound. Supertramp, which Davies co-founded in 1969, rose to global fame with their breakthrough album ‘Crime of the Century’ in 1974, followed by the hit ‘Breakfast in America’ in 1979. Despite creative tensions that led to Hodgson leaving the band in 1983, Davies remained the only constant member of Supertramp. He later performed with his own band, Ricky and the Rockets, after Supertramp’s touring stopped due to his health issues. Known for his warmth and resilience, Davies leaves behind a lasting legacy in rock music and is survived by his wife, Sue, who managed the band for decades.
