Scott Mills leaves BBC Radio 2 amid historic sexual offence investigation

Scott Mills, a long-standing BBC presenter, has been dismissed from BBC Radio 2 following allegations related to his personal conduct. The allegations concern a historic relationship with a teenage boy under 16, reportedly taking place between 1997 and 2000. Mills, who was in his 40s at the time of police questioning in 2018, was investigated by the Metropolitan Police after a referral from another force in 2016. The investigation was subsequently closed in 2019 as the Crown Prosecution Service determined there was insufficient evidence to press charges. The BBC has not disclosed whether this investigation influenced his dismissal. Mills joined Radio 2’s weekday schedule in 2022 and had hosted various shows at the BBC for over 25 years. He earned between £355,000 and £359,999 in the year leading up to April 2025, ranking him among the corporation’s highest-paid stars. The abrupt departure has been described as a shock to staff and listeners. This news follows other high-profile cases within the BBC involving presenters and allegations of sexual offences, including convictions and charges for Huw Edwards and Tim Westwood. Mills’ last show aired on 24 March 2026, with his replacement taking over the following day.
