Spotify to Introduce 24-bit Lossless Audio Option on iPhone via Music Pro Tier

Spotify is moving closer to launching its long-delayed lossless audio feature, first announced back in 2021. Recent code discoveries in Spotify’s desktop, web, and iPhone beta apps indicate the company is preparing to offer streaming and downloads of music in 24-bit/44.1 kHz lossless audio quality. The feature is expected to be included as part of a new ‘Music Pro’ subscription tier.

This new tier will reportedly include additional features such as remixing tools and access to concert tickets, with a potential cost of $5.99 per month on top of the existing Spotify Premium plan. While no official launch date has been confirmed, internal beta code and recent reports suggest Spotify aims to roll it out later in 2025.

Spotify’s lossless offering comes years after Apple Music and Tidal introduced similar features, with Apple notably offering lossless audio at up to 24-bit/192 kHz at no extra charge. Spotify’s decision to monetize the upgrade may draw criticism, especially since competitors provide higher quality without added cost. The delay and potential pricing model highlight Spotify’s struggle to keep pace in the high-fidelity streaming market. However, the rollout could still appeal to audiophiles and users seeking more control and quality in their listening experience.
