Mani, Legendary Bassist of Stone Roses and Primal Scream, Passes Away at 63

Gary ‘Mani’ Mounfield, the renowned bassist known for his work with the Stone Roses and Primal Scream, has passed away at the age of 63. Mounfield’s bass playing was a cornerstone of the iconic Manchester band, contributing to their unique sound on albums like their self-titled debut and ‘Second Coming’. After the Stone Roses disbanded in 1996, Mani joined Primal Scream, where he remained for 15 years, further solidifying his status in the rock music scene. Tributes poured in from fellow musicians, including Stone Roses frontman Ian Brown and Oasis’s Liam Gallagher, who expressed their shock and sadness over the loss of a close friend. Mani’s passing comes shortly after the death of his wife, Imelda, in November 2023, following a battle with bowel cancer. The couple left behind twin boys born in 2013. The loss of such a prominent figure in the British music scene is deeply felt by his peers and fans alike. Mani had recently announced plans for a tour where he would reflect on his time in both bands, but sadly, his death means this will no longer take place.
