AI Helps Coma Survivor Overcome Challenges and Find His Musical Voice

Lucas Horne, a 26-year-old from Nottinghamshire, spent almost four months in a coma after suffering a brain bleed in 2016. Following a long recovery period, during which he faced struggles with speech and movement, Lucas began writing music to express his emotions. However, when he tried to record his songs, he was frustrated by his altered voice, which lacked the emotional depth he had envisioned. Turning to artificial intelligence, Lucas used AI tools to bring his music to life, helping him convey his feelings through song. Now known as ‘The BTO Kid,’ Lucas has been shortlisted for the Future Sound Awards, which celebrate the use of AI in music. Despite concerns around AI’s impact on creativity and the music industry, Lucas believes that AI has provided him with a platform to express himself in ways he couldn’t before. His track, ‘AI Gave Me A Voice,’ represents his personal journey of recovery and finding his voice again. As AI continues to transform music, Lucas sees it as a tool that can empower individuals with unique challenges to create art they might otherwise be unable to. His story is a testament to the positive potential of AI in artistic expression.
