TikTok Introduces New Features for Songwriters to Showcase Their Work
TikTok is rolling out new features aimed at helping songwriters promote their work. The platform, currently in beta, introduces a ‘Songwriter’ label and a dedicated tab on profiles to showcase musical creations. The new tools aim to enhance songwriters’ visibility and marketability, allowing them to better connect with potential clients. However, access to these features is limited to a select group of publishing partners and songwriters, with others required to join a waitlist. TikTok’s decision to develop these features comes after surveying over 870 songwriters to understand their needs for profile-building and monetization on social media. A majority of songwriters reportedly use platforms like TikTok to raise their profile. TikTok’s Global Head of Music Publishing Licensing and Partnerships emphasized the company’s commitment to supporting songwriters, noting the unique position TikTok holds in helping songwriters share their music alongside personal content. While TikTok shut down its music streaming service, TikTok Music, in the previous year, the app remains a powerful tool for music discovery. This development follows similar initiatives by streaming giants like Spotify and Tidal, which have long allowed songwriters to highlight their work on their platforms.
