Fans in Wolverhampton pay tribute to Liam Payne a year after his death
Fans gathered in Wolverhampton, the hometown of singer Liam Payne, to commemorate the first anniversary of his death. Messages of love and remembrance, such as ‘We love you, Liam’ and ‘You will always be remembered’, were left alongside flowers and posters around the bandstand in West Park. Payne, known worldwide as a member of One Direction, died at the age of 31 after falling from a hotel balcony in Buenos Aires, Argentina. His death led to global vigils and tributes from fans and charities alike. The charity Rays of Sunshine praised Payne’s commitment to helping terminally ill children, saying he brought joy to hundreds of young lives. Records show that at the time of his death, Payne left an estate worth over £24 million. Among those attending the tribute was Sarah McRobb, a fan from Australia living in Manchester, who described Payne as kind and a great role model. John Carpenter, a former schoolmate, recalled Payne’s loyalty and encouragement, noting his rise from X Factor contestant to global star. He said he would honor his late friend by going for a run, something they used to enjoy together. Earlier this year, an Argentinian court dropped charges of criminal negligence against three of the five individuals initially connected to the case.
