Philadelphia Rapper LGP Qua Reportedly Passes Away at 24 Amid Industry Tributes

Philadelphia rapper LGP Qua, born Qidere Johnson, has reportedly passed away at the age of 24, according to a May 12, 2025, report by NewsX. While no official confirmation has been released by his family or local authorities, the news has prompted an outpouring of tributes from fans and fellow artists. Known for his powerful freestyle raps that addressed social justice issues, Qua gained widespread recognition through social media, amassing over 300,000 followers on Instagram. He notably collaborated with will.i.am on the 2018 track ‘INSOMNIAC (woke)’, which tackled systemic racism and gun violence.

Raised in North Philadelphia, Qua began writing rap lyrics during an 18-month prison sentence in 2016. His early work, including a track supporting Meek Mill’s release, helped him rise to prominence. Throughout his career, Qua branded himself as the ‘Voice of the Youth’ and was involved in community outreach, regularly visiting schools and organizing charitable initiatives. He received formal recognition from local politicians for his contributions, including a sneaker donation campaign in partnership with Puma and Foot Locker. The music community, including artists like Juicy J and Money Jake, expressed both admiration and frustration over missed opportunities to support the late rapper during his life.
