Kanye West to Perform at Wireless Festival Despite Past Controversial Comments

Wireless Festival organisers have confirmed that Kanye West will headline the upcoming event in London, despite widespread criticism of his previous antisemitic remarks. Melvin Benn, managing director at Festival Republic, described West’s comments as ‘abhorrent’ but emphasised that the rapper will solely perform his music without being given a platform to express opinions. Benn highlighted West’s legal right to enter and perform in the UK and asked the public to consider offering forgiveness, noting his personal anti-fascist convictions and support for both Jewish and Palestinian states. Sponsors Pepsi and Diageo withdrew from the festival following the announcement, and political figures, including Sir Keir Starmer, have criticised the decision. West, who last performed in the UK at Glastonbury in 2015, has previously posted antisemitic content online and referenced Hitler in his work. Earlier this year, he publicly apologised in a full-page Wall Street Journal advert, attributing his actions to a severe manic episode linked to bipolar-1 disorder. Various politicians and Jewish organisations have called for the Home Office to consider banning him from the country, though no entry application has yet been submitted. Live Nation, responsible for the festival, has not commented on the situation.
