Kesha Launches Smash: An App Empowering Musicians with Artist-Friendly Contracts
Kesha, the pop star known for her hits like ‘TiK ToK’, is venturing into the tech world as a startup founder. Her app, Smash, aims to revolutionize how musicians collaborate by offering a platform where they can create music, connect, and generate transparent contracts. Smash seeks to empower independent musicians and help them avoid the exploitative record deals Kesha herself once faced. Drawing from her own experience of battling a predatory contract with her former producer, Kesha and her brother Lagan Sebert designed the app to give musicians control over their work. Smash allows artists to negotiate terms that work for them, whether through set fees or royalties, while taking a small percentage of the payments as revenue. The app’s tech is being developed with the help of experts like Lars Rasmussen, co-founder of Google Maps, and Alan Cannistraro, an Apple veteran. Smash is expected to open later this year, offering a fair and transparent environment for music creators to thrive without compromising their rights.
